Description

"Any good interior should start with the client, this room is no different, albeit in this case the client is not a living individual - in thinking about the sort of person who would inhabit this room the idea of a collector emerged, the sort who engaged with the history and provenance of each object. The considered choice of assembling a room scheme reflects the careful process of assembling a collection, the one being a suitable undertaking in partnership with the other. I've had the enjoyable privilege in my career to work in this way with several collectors, but this time I came to know the presiding spirit of this room as Richard Wallace, the sum of three generations of famous collectors whose London home Hertford House remains as the Wallace Collection. This is a room for him, and for everyone who has discovered that great enrichment to life which is the appreciation of beautiful things. Partnering with Treasure House to present the Morning Room at WOW!house 2025 seemed a very natural fit, my working practice has its roots in the world of the collector. An interior at its best should be imbued with a special character of its own, as well as arranging all the practical considerations of a comfortable life. Unique and storied artworks, old and new, are the magic ingredient in the equation."
